One-time and Occasional Volunteering Opportunities:
Do you want to connect with local food and support our mission, or just need to complete some service hours? Volunteer with us on market days as you’re available. The market opens on May 17 and goes through Oct 11, every Wednesday from 4 PM – 7 PM.
Here’s what we need the most help with now:
- Hospitality Booth
- Market Take Down
- NEW this year…Garden Education Volunteers who will help teach and develop our children’s garden programming.
MARKET DAY VOLUNTEER TASKS:
Hospitality and Entertainment Booths: set up and take down of hospitality table, replenish supplies as needed, recruit signups for email newsletter list, answer visitor inquiries, handout frequent buyer cards and any freebies, run beverages to vendors. Two hour shifts: 3PM – 5PM, and 5PM – 7PM.
Market Take-Down: assist manager and on-site crew with breakdown and storage of market tables, chairs, carts, etc. One hour shifts: 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM.
Garden Education: The DFM,BG Learning Garden is a children’s educational program located at the farmers’ market. A garden meetup for kids, called “What’s Growing”, takes place every market day at 5:30 PM. The meetup lasts about 10 minutes (no more than 30 minutes) and involves a walk-thru of what you would find in a garden and veggie taste testing. The class is often expanded to include story time, or a planting or craft activity. Garden educators will lead garden time and accompanying activities as often as they’d like. They should be experienced educators with a passion for outdoor education, gardening, community, agriculture, or local food. Educators must be at least 16 years of age.
